  • @keithemmerson Bookshelf is 93cm wide, about 195cm tall. Bottom three shelves are 30cm deep. Top three shelves 23cm deep. It comes apart. in reply to keithemmerson #
  • @travelsavvymom If something’s marked ‘Creative Commons’ on Flickr, you don’t have to ask first. I always read and comply with terms of use. #
  • @travelsavvymom On the other hand, if it’s marked ‘all rights reserved’ then you definitely must ask and you could well get a no. #
  • Inquiries about the bike and bookshelf so far this morning. Twitter is awesome! All items are pick up only, from central London. Price neg. #
  • @mitchpberg I’m not convinced that “bike” is a verb. It’s a noun. Same with “gift” – you give a gift, you don’t gift a gift. in reply to mitchpberg #
  • @problogger @MsGourmet We were given an espresso machine for our wedding but need to figure out how to get it from Sydney to San Francisco. in reply to problogger #
  • Thoughtful piece on swine flu and media hype by @bengoldacre on Guardian Comment is Free. Please leave comments! http://bit.ly/OBQ1f #
  • @kujunat I wonder if you can apply for a refund on the basis that they should have done that in the first place. Worth a try? in reply to kujunat #
  • @nomadicmatt You should try http://www.rememberthemilk.com. in reply to nomadicmatt #
  • I’m having a farewell picnic in Kensington Gardens on Sunday 10 May before our move to San Francisco. DM me if you want details. #
  • @mitchpberg I do realise that some people use it as a verb – that’s what I’m complaining about. Anyway, no big deal! in reply to mitchpberg #
  • gmgwaj #
  • Fipp 2009 World Magazine Congress in London next week. I’ll be live-tweeting from the parties and conference from @fipp2009. Please follow! #
  • Please check out http://www.fipplondon09.com to see great line-up of speakers – it should be really interesting for anyone in media or magazines. #
  • Oh and I’ll be sure to give everyone all the gossip from the parties – opening is at Kensington Palace, the former home of Princess Diana. #
  • @hollowlegs @sulineats I thought there were a lot of fried chicken shops in Clapham and Brixton but truly nothing beats Whitechapel. in reply to hollowlegs #
  • I’m testing tweeting via text. #
  • @carolinechamber It doesn’t actually. I’m trying to set up my phone to to tweet to @fipp2009 but it’s still tweeting at @niltiac instead! in reply to carolinechamber #

  • I’m trying to keep it all in perspective but I’m starting to worry about swine flu. The word ‘pandemic’ makes me want to run for the hills. #
  • @jvdouglas I thought the swine flu came from the manure lagoons of nasty industrial feedlot pig farms. in reply to jvdouglas #
  • @stokely You can have a blog AND a newsletter as long as the newsletter is opt-in and has different content. Not everyone will read a blog. in reply to stokely #
  • The answer to my Mac battery problem? Shut down. Remove AC adaptor and battery. Press and hold power button for 5 seconds. (part 1) #
  • Re-install battery and plug AC adaptor back in. Turn on computer. (Part 2). Thanks to my friend Dylan for this. It’s now charging – woo hoo! #
  • @figandcherry I rented an apartment in Barcelona. In Sagrada Familia district near a covered market. Internet, washing machine, kitchen etc. in reply to figandcherry #
  • @girlonetrack Re using ‘feminist’ in Vogue interview – I agree, though the word might have got through if you’d only used it once or twice. in reply to girlonetrack #
  • @jemimakiss Aber diese Meinung von Gross Alan ist auf deutsch under deine Twitter Freunden sprechen englisch. Was ist los? in reply to jemimakiss #
  • @jemimakiss Diese Meinung von Gross Alan ist auf deutsch aber deine Twitter Freunden sprechen englisch. Was ist los? #
  • @emilybell The future of journalism is doing less with less … unless we as an industry find new business models and value experience. in reply to emilybell #
  • @jemimakiss Translation? This opinion from Big Alan is in German and your Twitter friends speak English. What’s going on? in reply to jemimakiss #
  • @RDBONES The format alters the journalism but not fundamentally. Yet medium greatly affects the business model and how journos are paid. in reply to RDBONES #
  • @RDBONES In my experience websites still don’t pay as much as print publications, but there’s certainly diversity of freelance opps online. in reply to RDBONES #
  • @jemimakiss Okay I’m listening to it now. (Alan Rusbridger video interview online. http://bit.ly/p65bf) in reply to jemimakiss #
  • @RDBONES The problem though is more fundamental – I worry about funding proper news reportage and investigative journalism. in reply to RDBONES #
  • @Suw @charlesarthur More civilised than a phone call, email, text or tweet, but face-to-face is the only proper way to break up with someone in reply to Suw #
  • @Suw I agree, that’s a crappy way to treat someone. Surely it’s only feasible (if not right) in the early phases of a relationship? in reply to Suw #
  • @steamykitchen Going undercover is a specialty for @ruthreichl. Have you read Garlic and Sapphires? It’s wonderful. in reply to steamykitchen #
  • @shinykatie I guess minicab drivers don’t sit the Knowledge test but that’s still lame. Surely you can direct him over Battersea Bridge? in reply to shinykatie #
  • @soultravelers3 @hostel There’s loads of free wifi in London. Every Pret a Manger, for example. It’s not always sign-posted or advertised. #
  • @soultravelers3 @hostel I think Pret offering free wifi is new since you were here. There are more Prets than McDs in centre. in reply to soultravelers3 #
  • I’ve had one of those days where I’ve been in front of the computer all day but I haven’t actually achieved anything much. I hate that. #
  • @soultravelers3 Pret a Manger is a chain that sells sandwiches, salads, cake and coffee, mostly for takeaway lunch. Half-owned by McDonalds. in reply to soultravelers3 #
  • @soultravelers3 Free wifi started only a few months ago. Pret outlets are literally EVERYWHERE in central London so it’s now VERY easy. in reply to soultravelers3 #
  • @soultravelers3 Also a lot of libraries, including my local one in east London, have free wifi. No time limit when it’s your own laptop. in reply to soultravelers3 #
  • @gruber I love your new avatar! Did you draw that yourself? in reply to gruber #
  • @wandermom It might be worthwhile. Are the adults in your family staying home from work? in reply to wandermom #
  • @qwghlm @charlesarthur Millions of deaths are a big deal. You don’t need the collapse of society on top of that. in reply to qwghlm #
  • @wandermom Best all stay home but make sure you negotiate for it to be sick leave / working from home, not vacation. in reply to wandermom #
  • @wandermom What’s the incubation period for swine flu? Is a couple of days enough? in reply to wandermom #
  • A former colleague has just friended me on FB. She’s in Mexico City right now reporting on swine flu for the LA Times. #
  • @travelrants It’s not the deaths so far, it’s the potential that this could be the major pandemic scientists have warned about for years. in reply to travelrants #
  • @qwghlm I don’t think anyone ever said that the survivors wouldn’t adjust (and tweet), it’s just overshadowed somewhat by the ‘big deal’. in reply to qwghlm #
  • @leawoodward Thanks for letting me know. Not sure what’s wrong. I use Firefox on a Mac and it’s fine on my machine. I’ll investigate. in reply to leawoodward #
  • @leawoodward Pardon my ignorance but I’m actually not familiar with Flock. Is it widely used? I’m told it looks ok on Chrome and IE. in reply to leawoodward #
  • @leawoodward The problem is that I’m not sure what to do with the information – I don’t know how to fix it. It’s a premium WordPress theme. in reply to leawoodward #
  • @leawoodward Yes or StudioPress as they now call themselves. I’ll let them know – thank you. in reply to leawoodward #
  • What’s your favourite flower? Mine is possibly the bluebell. They’re early this year – see video: http://bit.ly/2vMyl #
  • @ourman I’m starting to get sick of hearing about it as well but the jury is out on whether it’s hype or not – the potential is serious. in reply to ourman #
  • @kristainlondon I really hate time-limit table bookings. It’s mercenary in principle and it’s never handled graciously in practice. in reply to kristainlondon #
  • @environmentsite Salt can’t be organic as it’s not farmed! Also Australian lake salt is just as good as sea salt and good for environment. in reply to environmentsite #
  • @hollowlegs @kristainlondon Dinner for 4 at Moro. 2 people were 15mins late but we skipped starter. Still no time for coffee. in reply to hollowlegs #
  • @hollowlegs @kristainlondon They could have waived the policy since they weren’t full or politely asked us if we’d take coffee at the bar. in reply to hollowlegs #
  • @ourman The reportage on swine flu I’ve seen online is in proportion to events and the warnings by WHO. I can’t speak for the TV coverage. in reply to ourman #
  • @ourman One worrying thing is that the deaths are all people aged 20-45 apparently, though flu usually takes very old and very young. in reply to ourman #

  • RT @Queensland: Can you believe in only 9 days we will find out who is #islandreefjob Best Job In The World Island Caretaker! What a ride… #
  • RT @jvdouglas “We need a term for husbands and wives who communicate over Twitter.” Twouses? Spouters? #
  • Konditor & Cook really knows its market. I bought this cake just for the cute sugar bees hovering above the sunflower. http://bit.ly/5smzV #
  • @deejackson Gosh, I can see how that would be unsettling. He passed on a while ago – why the delay in burial / cremation? in reply to deejackson #
  • I’ve just figured out that the reason it’s so easy to keep up with tweets in TweetDeck is that it doesn’t display old ones. I’m slow! #
  • @oleuanna Nothing like that – just the everyday banalities of married life happening over Twitter. in reply to oleuanna #
  • Could Britain be losing its butterflies? First bees and now butterflies – what’s happening to our pollinator insects? http://bit.ly/oeJ4U #
  • @EverywhereTrip What’s been keeping you in Tel Aviv? in reply to EverywhereTrip #
  • @jemimakiss I don’t have the official wedding photos yet but I’ve linked to my friends’ albums from my Facebook profile page. in reply to jemimakiss #
  • Here is a wedding photo (this is the Buddhist blessing outside the church). There are loads more on Facebook. http://twitpic.com/43c60 #
  • Then 2 weeks later, I was a bridesmaid for my cousin Rhia. I’ll blog about all this soon so no more pics for now. http://twitpic.com/43c9l #
  • @snapperwolf @KathrynElliott Water, presumably. (Re can of chick peas). in reply to snapperwolf #
  • I enjoyed this piece by @jvdouglas about Anzac Day and why we commemorate rather than celebrate it. http://bit.ly/PgkK5 #
  • @hollowlegs My mother is an ordained Buddhist. We had an Anglican service and then a private Buddhist blessing outside the church. in reply to hollowlegs #
  • Big news – I’m moving to San Francisco! It’s now official and we’ll be there by June. Excited by opportunity but sad to leave London too. #
  • I didn’t get @queensland island caretaker job, but I think Plan B is pretty good! Honeymoon on the Great Barrier Reef and move to San Fran. #
  • My husband works in tech but his job’s in downtown San Fran, not Silicon Valley. It’s one of the few US cities where we won’t need a car. #
  • Hubby is getting 3 weeks holiday a year. This is generous by American standards, but it’s going to be a real culture shock for us. #
  • @Kerrie_Murphy George Clooney has been doing ads for Nespresso in Europe for some time. It’s not your typical Nestle product. in reply to Kerrie_Murphy #
  • It’s already 11.15am. Time to get serious about getting some work done. Switching off Twitter, Facebook, 43 Things, blog readers and email. #
  • RT @travolution: Which one are you? Ten ten list of Twitter people to unfollow! Scary yet funny – http://tinyurl.com/5proac #
  • @TeeMonster Surely it’s okay to automate tweets from blog posts, as long as you are also here in person having conversations and such like? in reply to TeeMonster #
  • @toddlucier You can’t form a relationship in one 140 chara tweet but you can over many tweets, plus the tweets lead to other interactions. in reply to toddlucier #
  • @toddlucier Similarly with face-to-face meetings, you can’t form a rich relationship from a single handshake and exchange of pleasantries. in reply to toddlucier #
  • @VSGgirl I’m not in the States yet! I don’t actually drive but I need to remember to look to the left rather than the right as a pedestrian. in reply to VSGgirl #
  • Interesting piece on the rise of ‘confessional journalism’ in the Guardian. Is it like this in the US as well? http://bit.ly/15O19h #
  • Swine flu – the disease might be horrible but the medieval name certainly has more panache than plain ‘pig flu’. Do sufferers kick the pail? #
  • @LunaticAtLarge You need to see a physiotherapist for special exercises. Yoga and massage are also great. in reply to LunaticAtLarge #
  • @steamykitchen Honestly, I think you should probably see whether things get better or worse over the next few days before making your choice #
  • @steamykitchen You don’t need pectin if the fruit is good quality – natural pectin levels are highest if the fruit is slightly underripe. in reply to steamykitchen #
  • Food expert Marion Nestle writes about swine flu and asks who needs bioterrorism when we’ve got manure lagoons? http://bit.ly/4FNAH #
  • I’ve just been looking through the professional photos from my wedding day – there are some delightful shots! A big thank you to my friend. #

  • My laptop battery on my Mac has gone down to zero and won’t charge. Is there a battery conditioning program on hard drive or web I can run? #
  • @jemimakiss A friend ran some sort of conditioning program when he stayed with us last September. It worked but I don’t know what he did. in reply to jemimakiss #
  • @kevglobal I probably do need a new battery – it was damaged by a water spill last year and I was very lucky I didn’t fry the hard drive. in reply to kevglobal #
  • For sale: Ladies’ bike (2005 Specialized) for pick up in London. £100 ono. Just in time for spring and summer! #

  • 5 years ago today, I attended Dawn Service at Anzac Cove in Gallipoli, Turkey. Touching to see Turkish, Australian, NZ flags fly together. #
  • I got up early and made a quick trip to Borough Market to load up on asparagus, coffee and cake. It’s fab there before the lunchtime crush. #
  • Healthy potato salad – potatoes with skins and baby spinach, red (MSC) salmon, spring onion, parsley, chives, yogurt dressing. #lunchtweet #
  • @scottsigler So it looks like you have a new book – congrats. I have codes coming out my ears… ‘hutch’, ‘grammar’ and more. #
  • Blackwells in Charing Cross Road has a new in-store print-on-demand machine. I got to witness (and video) a book being printed – very cool. #
  • Walked through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens this afternoon and enjoyed perfect spring sunshine and amazing new green leaves and grass. #
  • @weebly_one I haven’t seen State of Play and I don’t fancy Crowe but he was pretty hot in Gladiator and brilliant in A Beautiful Mind. #

  • @joegreenz Rabbits are cute but they ARE delicious – a kind of gamey and slightly salty white meat. Yum! BTW Welsh rarebit has egg as well. in reply to joegreenz #
  • @joegreenz It’s ANZAC Day in Australia too not just NZ! Here’s a quiz question for you: which country lost the most troops at Gallipoli? in reply to joegreenz #
  • I need to crack on and get some work done. I’m still jetlagged so my energy levels are crashing at around 5pm. #
  • Lessons on Halal meat from Susie of Arabia – teaching kids the letter and not the spirit of the law. http://bit.ly/cItov #
  • @jvdouglas The honeymoon was suitably full of honey (or good food anyway) and moons (beautiful ones over the water). in reply to jvdouglas #
  • @RalphBassfeld I saw that @susieofarabia has started following me recently and I assume it’s her, though she hasn’t written any tweets yet. in reply to RalphBassfeld #
  • @MissExpatria For a major side-trip (but doable in the time) go to Pompeii by bus, otherwise Hadrian’s Villa is good day trip near Rome. #
  • @MissExpatria You could also get the train up to Umbria – countryside is beautiful, like Tuscany but less well known and closer to Rome. #
  • @MissExpatria We stayed with friends in a village but we also went through Spoleto – a lovely walled medieval town with huge old aqueduct. in reply to MissExpatria #
  • Grilled haloumi and tomato on pumpkin-seed ryvitas. #lunchtweet #
  • Good rebuttal from a female tech journalist on the issue of women in IT and Torygraph idiocy. http://bit.ly/t48hA #
  • @transfuga No problem. I’m sorry to hear about your back problems – take care! in reply to transfuga #
  • Cooked up a batch of potatoes that were starting to sprout and now I’m compulsively eating them. Must. Stop. Now. #
  • @Nancydbrown Have a wonderful time! I’ve just got back from my honeymoon in Queensland with loads of snorkelling and diving. Fab stuff! in reply to Nancydbrown #

  • A bunch of people stopped following me after my tweet re toe injury in baby turtle quest. I know it’s gruesome but I expected sympathy! #
  • @FacingTheStreet Thanks! I didn’t let it stop me – for snorkelling, I glad-wrapped the toe and then popped on a sock before the flippers. in reply to FacingTheStreet #
  • @earthXplorer They might read it if the tweets come up on a Twitter search for a relevant keyword or if they follow later and read history. in reply to earthXplorer #

  • Singpaore Changi remains my favourite airport in the world. I’ve visited the butterfly garden and koi pond, now using free internet kiosks. #
  • My hubby’s movie screen was broken and the flight was full so Singapore Airlines gave us a $US50 voucher for inflight shopping with no fuss. #
  • Boarding a big A380 for the next leg to London in an hour from now. Hopefully we’ll get some sleep since we’ll land in the morning UK time. #
  • @benz001 The butterfly garden and koi pond are in Terminal 3 (the new one). There’s a cactus pond in another terminal and a pool somewhere. in reply to benz001 #
  • @benz001 A cactus GARDEN rather. Cacti would rot in a pond. in reply to benz001 #
  • @HappyHotelier No I didn’t previously have an ‘old’ husband but it’s only a matter of time before I do! We’ve been together 9 years though. in reply to HappyHotelier #
  • The honeymoon was fab apart from the bit where I lost a toenail by kicking it on coral running down the beach to see baby turtles hatching. #
